About

We're Not a Recovery Program.

We're a conversation. About shame, identity, belonging, and the behaviors people use to escape the feeling that they don't fit. No Misfit Shaming exists because that conversation wasn't happening anywhere we could find it.

Why This Exists

The question nobody was asking.

Most conversations about alcohol and addiction focus on the behavior. Stop drinking. Go to meetings. Work the steps. And for a lot of people, that works. But there's a whole group of people for whom the behavior was never really the problem — it was the solution. A solution to feeling like they didn't belong anywhere. Like something was fundamentally wrong with them. Like everyone else got a manual they never received.

No Misfit Shaming was built for those people. Not to replace treatment or recovery programs — but to ask the question that usually comes before any of that: why did this behavior become useful to you in the first place? Because until you answer that, you're just fighting the symptom.

What We Believe

The principles behind this place.

01

Curiosity over condemnation.

We don't shame people for drinking, using, or any other behavior. We ask why it became useful. That's a different conversation — and a more honest one.

02

Accountability without self-hatred.

Understanding why you did something isn't an excuse for it. It's the only way to actually change it. You can own your behavior without hating yourself for it.

03

Direct, not clinical.

We're not therapists. We're not a hotline. We're people who've been in the room and decided to talk about it honestly — without the language of victimhood or the language of diagnosis.

04

Different isn't defective.

The central idea. Being a misfit doesn't mean something is wrong with you. It might mean you were in the wrong rooms. This is a different room.

Let's Be Clear

What we're not.

  • Not a 12-step program or a replacement for one
  • Not a crisis line — if you're in crisis, please call SAMHSA at 1-800-662-4357
  • Not a therapy service or a substitute for professional help
  • Not a place that tells you what to do or how to live
  • Not interested in shame — yours or anyone else's

This is your room now too.

Read the stories. Use the resources. Share your own. Or just sit with the idea that being different doesn't make you broken.

NoMisfitShaming

You were never the problem. The shame was. We're done pretending otherwise.

The Mission

THE REAL YOU IS NOT THE PROBLEM. SHAME IS.
